Self-Preservation is NOT Self-Protection

Scripture: "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord." — Psalm 37:23
For years, I believed strength meant pushing through.
Keep serving. Keep smiling. Keep producing. Keep moving.
If I stopped long enough to feel, I feared I would lose momentum.
But God has been teaching me something different.
Self-preservation isn't running away from life. It isn't building walls around my heart. It isn't avoiding disappointment.
It's learning how to steward the heart God entrusted to me.
In this season, self-preservation looks like taking one faithful step instead of ten anxious ones. It looks like acknowledging that my heart feels fragile while still choosing obedience. It looks like refusing to make decisions based on fear or disappointment. It looks like allowing myself to grieve without losing hope.
I've discovered that I don't have to pretend to be okay for God to continue His work in me.
He isn't asking me to numb my feelings.
He's asking me to trust Him with them.
Today, I still believe in God.
And, because of His work in my life, I'm learning to believe in the woman He's shaping me to become.
I'm not as strong as I will be.
But I'm stronger than I used to be.
Today, I'm choosing one step.
Tomorrow can wait.
Reflection:
What would change if you measured today's success by your faithfulness instead of your feelings?
Prayer:
Father, help me preserve the heart You've entrusted to me. Teach me to acknowledge my emotions without surrendering my hope. Give me grace for today's assignment and trust for tomorrow's. My life is safe in Your hands. Amen.
