"Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.’"
— Matthew 18:21-22
Trust is fragile, yet essential to all meaningful relationships—whether in family, ministry, friendships, or romantic partnerships. Over time, even the strongest bonds can be tested, and sometimes broken. When trust is violated, the natural response is often hurt, anger, or withdrawal. But God’s Word invites us into something far more transformative: forgiveness.
Forgiveness as a Choice
Jesus’ response to Peter reminds us that forgiveness is not a one-time act—it’s a continual choice. Repairing broken trust doesn’t mean ignoring pain or pretending everything is fine. It means intentionally choosing to extend grace, even when it feels difficult or undeserved. Forgiveness paves the way for healing, growth, and restored relationships.
Humility and Clear Communication
Repairing trust requires humility. It means acknowledging our own imperfections while holding others accountable. Clear communication is equally vital—expressing how we were hurt, what boundaries are necessary, and what steps are required to rebuild trust. Without honesty and transparency, reconciliation is shallow at best.
Extending Grace, Even When It’s Hard
Extending grace can be challenging, especially if someone repeatedly disappoints or hurts us. Yet, God calls us to rise above resentment. By forgiving, we release ourselves from the prison of bitterness and invite God’s healing into our hearts. As we choose forgiveness, we also create a space for trust to be restored, not just for others, but for ourselves.

Reflection Prompt:
Who in your life do you need to forgive to move forward in trust and peace?
How can humility and honest communication play a role in repairing a broken relationship?
What boundaries do you need to set while extending grace to protect your heart?
I'm reflecting...
Trust may be broken, but it can be rebuilt through forgiveness, humility, and intentional action. God calls us to keep choosing grace, even when it’s hard, because restoration is always worth the effort. Let your heart be open to His guidance as you take steps toward healing and renewed trust.
